My name is Alan Azem. I have been a proud California resident since I was 6 years old. Now, at age 52, I have embraced environmental activism in my backyard. My journey began unexpectedly during a family trip to Hawaii. While spearfishing with my two sons, I noticed trash littering the ocean floor. The reef held human-made contaminants, altering the beauty and health of the ecosystem. This realization sparked a profound change in me. Upon returning home, I began going on solo expeditions to clean up the San Francisco Bay and its surrounding waterways. While on the Califonia Delta, my two sons and I would come across styrofoam, refrigerators, abandoned boats, and everything in between. Over the years, I have embarked on hundreds of excursions, finding the work impactful and deeply therapeutic. Cleaning up the waters allowed me to connect with nature and clear my mind. I began my journey picking up trash with a jetski, soon upgrading to the boat I purchased with garbage pickup in mind. Upgrading it over time to improve my cleanup efforts. I invite friends and family to join me, turning my passion for the environment into a community-driven mission.
About Us
The San Francisco Bay faces significant challenges. The Bay and its connecting rivers also know as the delta are affected by commercial ships as well as other pollutants. The Bay System collects debris and trash that comes throughout Northern California and abroad. Over 80% of the trash includes harmful plastics, which persist in the environment, affecting wildlife and ecosystems. Trash, as well as urban runoff, washes microplastics and other contaminants into surrounding water. These micro plastics are found in alarming quantities, affecting water quality and local marine life. While local initiatives and policies aim to reduce single-use plastics, trash pollution remains a serious environmental concern. With your contribution, we can make a change in our backyard.

The Cleaning Cali Foundation, Inc. is a dedicated family-run non-profit striving to raise awareness about pollution in our rivers, bays, and oceans. We engage community volunteers in various activities aimed at cleaning and preserving our precious waterways. Our goal is to foster a clean environment for future generations through informative outreach and active involvement.
